    Join us for active, fun, and social open Pickleball. From beginner to advanced, Pickleball players will have an opportunity to learn the sport and/or work on their game with other pickleball enthusiasts! No scheduled matches, partners not needed. A limited amount of pickleball paddles & balls will be available to use if you do not have your own. All players must register online or @ the Community Education office and must be 18 or older to join Fees are as follows: September - December ($30) January - May 31st ($35) June - August (FREE of charge - played at Lincoln Elementary tennis courts) Hours of play vary depending on availability and weather.   • Safety Town

    Safety Town is a prevention program teaching young children how to prevent accidents from occurring and how to respond to dangerous situations. This program is offered to children ages 4-7 years old and must be 4 years old by June 1, 2024. No exceptions will be made. Under the guidance of district staff, teen and community volunteers, children are introduced to a variety of safety concepts. The safety education includes topics about fire, animals, home, personal, pedestrian, bicycle, poison, violence, playground, bus, electricity, seatbelt, first aid, and water safety. The classes will be divided according to the children's ages to ensure that the information will be presented to the children at a developmentally appropriate level. Parents have the option of registering their child in a morning or afternoon 9-day session. Morning session fills up fast so register early!!!   • Summer Gym ECFE

    Do you have a child birth-5 years old? Join us for a good time in the Early Learning Center gym! Gym time allows you and your child to burn off energy while socializing with peers. Half of the gym will be gross motor activities (trikes, balls, running, throwing, etc.). The other half of the gym will be fine motor activities, including a baby area (puzzles, play doh, scissors, books, etc.). Please see the table below to determine your eligibility for a reduced rate. This table is based on federal poverty guidelines.     For more information contact Alex Stene @ alexandra.stene@isd701.org or 218-208-0842 ext 21480 Babies/Toddlers The goals of these classes: we start out nice and slow with fun activities like little bucket showers, blowing bubbles, playing splash ball, etc. The goal of this class is to have the kids comfortably submerging themselves. Skills Taught: Windshield Wipers (wiping water off face with hands), Blowing Bubbles, Splashy Kicks, Submerging --Babes & Tots I (1-2 years old)-- Prerequisite: None. Parent & Me Class 30 minute class ►Parents and children are introduced to the fundamentals of water safety and water discovery in a fun, stimulating environment. This class will help equip parents with information on how to safely submerge and properly hold babies in the water. Children must have a swim diaper. --Babes & Tots II (2-3 years old)-- Prerequisite: several experiences in a pool prior to this class. Parent & Me Class 30 minute class ►Parents and children focus on the fundamentals of water safety and the development of swim readiness skills. This class incorporates games that introduce the fundamentals of skills such as breath control, submersion, blowing bubbles, and assisted kicking and floating. Children must have a swim diaper Preschool Our preschool classes focus on how to safely enjoy the water while gaining comfort and confidence. These classes are divided into three levels that include safety, independence, and development. Skills Taught: Gliding, Splashy Kicks, Floating on Back, Jump in from side of pool, Big Arms, “Sea Otter Roll”, Monkey/Airplane/Soldier(elementary backstroke) --Pre I: (3-4 years old)-- Prerequisite: Children should be able to fully submerge their face in the water, eyes, and everything. 30 minute class ►Children will learn water safety and how to develop comfort with submersion, learn proper breath control, and front and back float with assistance. This class is designed for the first-time swimmers and for children who are not yet confident in being in the water alone. If children are not fully potty trained, a swim diaper needs to be worn. --Pre II: (3-5 years old)-- Prerequisite: Children should be able to fully submerge their face in the water, eyes and everything. 30 minute class ►Children will further focus on gaining confidence and independence in the water by concentrating on control and movement in the water. We will begin teaching them the basics of movement through the water. Participants will continue to practice water safety. This class is best suited for participants who need guided practice and are not yet able to independently swim on their own or stay afloat. If children are not fully potty trained, a swim diaper needs to be worn. --Pre III: (4-5 years old)-- Prerequisite: Child should be able to do Freestyle (“Big Arms & Splashy Kicks” with face in the water at least 2 feet thru water they cannot touch the bottom in. 30 minute class ►Children are introduced to arm/leg action, rhythmic breathing, and will swim further distances up to 10 yards, both with assistance and independently. This class is best suited for participants who are unable to swim longer distances independently. If children are not fully potty trained, a swim diaper needs to be worn. Youth (Ages 6+) The youth swim program is divided into six swim levels for children to advance and master skills at their own pace before advancing to the next level. Each level includes training in basic water safety, helping others in an emergency, and most importantly stroke development. --Youth I-- Prerequisite: Children should be able to do Freestyle a few feet with their face in the water and be able to roll over onto their back and float when they need air. 30 minute class ► At this level swimmers are finally crossing the distance of our pool using their big arms and sea otter rolls. We will introduce some backstroke to help the kids get more comfortable on their back. The goal of this class is to get them comfortably swimming the length of the pool unassisted. --Youth II-- Prerequisite: Children should be very comfortable in water when they cannot touch the bottom. Children should have also been introduced to Freestyle with the arms and the kicks. 30 minute class ►At this level we teach the kids how to turn their head to the side and get a breath, side breathing. The goal of this class is to get the kids to swim at least 1 lap using freestyle with side breathing with no help from the teacher. Participants are introduced to alternating and simultaneous arm/leg action, rhythmic breathing, and swimming further distances up to 1 lap with assistance and independently. They will continue to practice water safety and further learn about the aquatic environment. --Youth III-- Prerequisite: Children should be able to swim Freestyle with side breathing for one lap of the pool unassisted. 30 minute class ► At this level swimmers will begin swimming multiple laps at a time and work endurance. We also work out any kinks or bad habits the kids have in their strokes. Participants will further work on alternating and simultaneous arm/leg action and primarily focus on front crawl and backstroke for 15 yards. --Youth IV-- Prerequisite: Children should be able to swim at least 4 laps in a row of freestyle with a decent amount of speed. 45 minute class ►We continue to build up endurance, allowing swimmers to go greater distances. Participants will further work on alternating and simultaneous arm/leg action, and rotary breathing. They will learn or be exposed to additional strokes. Participants will be introduced to other components of swimming. --Youth V-- Prerequisite: Child should have knowledge of all four competitive strokes: Freestyle, Backstroke, Butterfly and Breaststroke. 45 minute class ►Swimmers will work on stroke techniques and learn competitive strokes to become more efficient swimmers. This class will refine strokes so participants can swim with further efficiency, power, and smoothness over longer distances. --Youth VI-- Prerequisite: Child should have adequate knowledge of all four competitive strokes: Freestyle, Backstroke, Butterfly and Breaststroke. 45 minute class ►In this level we work on fine tuning all of the strokes they know, as well as introducing racing aspects such as flip turns. By the end of this class the child should be ready to join a swim team or go out and swim 200 yards! Participants will practice endurance building and training, and competitive techniques. Diving --Diving I-- M/T 5:00 - 5:45 --Diving II-- M/T 6:00 - 6:45 Prerequisite: None 45 minute class ►Have you always wanted to learn how to dive off the board? We are holding Diving I and Diving II classes with former Hibbing diver Lizzie Copeman. Open to all students ages 9+ with no experience required to join. There will be an introduction night where participants will be placed into Diving I or Diving II where divers will learn intro to flexibility skills, diving approach and entry and basic competitive dives. Open Swim Open Swim is an opportunity for friends and families to come and enjoy swim time together. All children ages 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Children with life jackets must be within arm’s reach of a parent at all times and are only allowed in the shallow end of the pool. A swim test will be administered prior to entry into the deep water. Small Pool 8am - 11am $1.00 per person/hour Enter through door 12

    "No Small Parts!" Pop-up theater for Kids! with Megan Reynolds, Hibbing High School Drama Director August 12-16th, 2024 @ Lincoln Auditorium Experience the thrill of theater! Want to learn to pretend you're someone else and perform on the stage? Here's your chance! Spend a week this summer at the Lincoln Elementary School Auditorium and learn how to put on a play, with YOU as the star actor! Taught by Shelly Hansen of Minnesota North College and HHS Drama Director Megan Reynolds, assisted by HHS theater students, this workshop for young theater lovers will have opportunities for kids to learn beginning performance skills and the basics of play-making. Grades 1-3 will play theater games, sing songs and create a short performance. Grades 4-7 will work with a script and put on a short play in just 5 days! (Grades 4-7 should bring a lunch with them to the theater each day during our break.) The week will culminate with a performance by both sessions on Friday, August 16th at 1:30PM in the Lincoln Auditorium. Scholarships are available thru Hibbing Community Education.     This class is for children ages 3 to 5 years old. THIS IS NO CLASS TIME, ONLY GYM. Gym time allows you and your child to burn off energy while socializing with peers. This class focuses on gross motor development and social skills. Children will have the opportunity to explore various gym equipment, work on running and throwing all while practicing taking turns, sharing, following directions and routines. This class focuses on skills such as fine motor strength, self control, listening, following a routine, enjoying music and literature. All of these skills are considered school readiness skills.     Walking for Fitness We are happy that our school space can be utilized to assist you in staying fit. Anyone wishing to walk on the Ben Owens Stadium/Cheever Field track (June-August) or in the Hibbing High School (Oct-May), is welcome to do so; Walking is FREE however, REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. We have a few guidelines to keep you and our school safe: Walk the Halls- Hibbing High School Stay active during the cold months! Community Education continues to sponsor the Walk Program at the Hibbing High School. This program is for all area residents, young to seniors, cardiac patients, and persons with disabilities. The school setting provides a safe, warm, and positive atmosphere to exercise during the colder months. October-May, 5:00pm-7:00pm, M-F Please enter and exit through Door 12 Please limit walking to lower-level and 1st floor only. No walking when school is in session Indoor shoes only No food, pop or energy drinks (Gatorade/PowerAde) are allowed. Water only Do not leave your belongings unattended. We do not have an area for coats/personal items. It is your responsibility to carry these with you or lock them in your vehicle Help us keep our school facilities clean. Do not leave garbage or trash lying around. There are waste receptacles throughout the facility Children must be accompanied by an adult. No children under age 16 are allowed in the facility without an adult Failure to follow these rules may result in loss of privilege to use the facility Outdoor Walking- Ben Owens Stadium/Cheever Field Did you know that the NEW track at Ben Owens Stadium/Cheever Field is available for walking during the summer months, when school is not in session!? The track offers a smooth walking surface, great for those with achy knees and backs. The track is a safe place to get your steps in! No need to focus on anything, but having a great time. Walk with friends or alone. June 1-August 1, 8:00am-2:00pm, M-F The track is not open for community use when the field is in use by the school district. This could include summer camps and workshops. Smoking or tobacco products on any kind are prohibited No motorized vehicles, bicycles, rollerblades or roller-skates allowed in the facility No pets allowed Tennis shoes only. No spiked or cleated shoes allowed No food, pop or energy drinks (Gatorade/PowerAde) are allowed. Water only No facility use when lightning is evident The track is not staffed during open walking.
