  • Classroom Drivers Training

    Hibbing Community Education offers a 30-hour Classroom Driver's training course for those 14-1/2 years of age and older. Class will be held July 7th - 18th 2025 (M-F) @ The Early Learning Center. Please use door #16, 2100 12th Ave East, Hibbing Registration will open Thursday, May 1st @ 8am. Pre-registration is required.   • College For Kids

    College for Kids is a one week summer program for ages 4 - 14 taking place at Minnesota North Hibbing campus in July. This program will include hands-on classes in performing arts, visual arts, science, technology, recreation, crafts, and other fun activities. Students will be able to select and attend three classes at 9, 10, and 11 A.M. Class brochures will be made available online and registration will open June 16 at 6AM. August 4- 8 will be a week you will not want to miss! Sections will be $35 each. No refunds issued after July 1st. Camp T-Shirts will be made available for $15. You must have 3 classes at each time for a complete registration. Classes with a - 1 are 9:00 classes. Classes with a - 2 are 10:00 classes. Classes with a - 3 are 11:00 classes. Orion Martial Arts Each individual student has their own experience that takes personal perseverance in reaching goals. Tang Soo Do provides better health for the body and mind. It instills the skills to complete goals, understand self-awareness and self control, and become more confident. Disc Golf Disc golf is a sport for all ages! Disc golf offers excellent competition, but also individual growth mentally and physically. Students will be taught rules and etiquette, about equipment, basics, putting, backhand and sidearm driving, and scoring. Discs will be provided, but feel free to bring your own equipment. College for Kids Soccer Camp Risk free class to learn the basics of soccer! Fundamentals and fun are what this class is all about! Get up and moving with a mini-soccer camp with College for Kids this summer! College for Kids Basketball Camp Dribble up and join us for the fundamentals of basketball. Campers will be taught basic techniques of shooting, dribbling, passing, rebounding, and defense, all while having fun! Packed with competitions and ending with an awards ceremony, this will be a basketball opportunity you don't want to miss! Dreamcatcher Workshop Students will develop craft making skills creating their own dreamcatcher, as well as the history and significance of the dreamcatcher. Students will gain cultural knowledge and learn the Legend Story and Ojibwe Language surrounding their dreamcatcher. Native American Beadwork Native American Beadwork recommended for grades 4 and up. During this class we will learn the importance of patience, and indigenous lessons, along with a beading project of your choice. Beadwork takes determination but the outcome is rewarding. A Week With Roald Dahl Spend the week exploring the magical worlds that Dahl has created over the years. Each day you will focus on a new book, complete with book inspired activities, crafts, writing, and more! From Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, to Matilda, to James and the Giant Peach. Let's Dance! Join me for an exciting week of dance, exploring your artistic expression through rhythm and movement! We will delve into a few different styles (i.e., jazz, modern, hip hop), dancing to fun musical selections that are current yet kid-friendly. Beginners and those experienced in dance are welcome! Please come dressed in movement-friendly clothing. Hands-On Science! Come and learn all about science and apply it to everyday life! We'll discover the science of motion, temperature, states of matter, and so much more! Fun, hands-on experiments for each day! Space Camp 3, 2, 1 …Blast Off! Learn about space while building your own rocket! Students will construct a working model of a rocket from ordinary materials. We will also try some fun spacey activities in the planetarium dome. An experience that is out of this world! Rockets will be launched on the last day of class, weather permitting. Games of Strategy and Chance Ever wondered the secret behind winning a game of checkers? Have you always wanted to learn how to play chess? This class is the class for you! Together we will explore classic board games, card games, and explore strategies to these games. College for Kids Volleyball Camp Volleyball skills, drills, and techniques will highlight this College for Kids class. Learn the basics or improve upon skills you already have; learn alongside friends, help teach friends, and make friends. This class will be a bumping good time! Art is FUN! Do you love creating art? This class is for you! Each day will bring a new and exciting craft for you to make and take home. From cloud foam to anti-gracity galaxy jars to painting, you're bound to have a good time making long-lasting arts and crafts. Lego Robotics Are you up for a challenge? Learn how to code a robot to move around the competition mat and to manipulate various obstacles. You will need to build, rethink, and rebuild time and time again. This is a fun, mini session of our regular season competition. Kids will also get to compete against one another to complete the most obstacles the fastest! Minnesota Animals Students will get the opportunity to learn facts about a variety of animals that call Minnesota home including beaver, otter, coyote, fox, bear, etc. This course will focus on anatomy, track identification, what each species eats, where they live and other characteristics that make each animal unique or similar. Hands on activities include getting to handle and observe real animal pelts, bones and teeth. Extra! Extra! Read All About It! Spend the week being a newspaper reporter - learn how to investigate and write news stories. At the end of the class, students will publish a newspaper. Outdoor Games Enjoy this laid-back class learning how to play all sorts of outdoor games from Bags, to Ladder Ball, and many more! Pottery Intro to ceramic's hand building. Students will explore slab and coil construction, making simple forms. Helping fire kiln, studio work and glazing will be done. Students will each have projects to take home at the end. No-Sew Sew Did you know you can make projects that look like they were sewn by using common tools most homes have? Well come see how to make cute, useful items without a sewing machine! See you there! Photography Class *Bring your own device - iPad, phone, etc.* Jump into the world of photography and learn the art behind the beauty! Led by local photographer Emily Law, this is a class you won't want to miss! Cheerleading A fun class will teach the basics of cheerleading, sportsmanship, and how to work together as a team. During this class you’ll learn two cheers and a short dance and you’ll preform at the end of the week. You’ll also have an opportunity to decorate a shirt and a bow to wear during the end of week performance. Intro to ASL Have you ever wanted to learn another language? Now is the perfect time to step right into learning American Sign Language. Find the fun of a new language while learning the basics of the language. Pickleball Have fun with friends learning the basics of the fastest growing sport. Pickleball combines tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. The focus is strategy and patience, not just speed. Jewelry Making Jewelry making is a rewarding and creative craft that allows you to design and create beautiful wearable pieces. Create neckles, bracelets, anklets, and hair jewelry with a variety of materials. Preschool & Kindergarten Session Students will get the chance to explore art, science and nature! Each day students will be able to investigate new art mediums, observe and conduct science experiments and learn new ways to use nature in their work and play!

    Pre-K to 3rd Grade Flag Football (Open to all area schools - private & public) This program is open to boys and girls from across the Iron Range. It is a 6 week youth football program led by Head Coach Matt Anderson. This program is designed for young athletes who want to develop their football skills in a fun, positive environment. Season August 18th - September 23rd, 2025 Kids will need tennis shoes or rubber cleats. Footballs, flags and mouth guards will be provided.     Elementary Volleyball

    5th & 6th Grade Elementary Volleyball for boys & girls is back! The purpose of the Hibbing Youth Volleyball program is to provide an opportunity for students in 5th & 6th grade to learn the fundamentals of volleyball in a fun and safe environment! Our goal is to provide a positive experience while fostering the growth of each player.   • Firearm Safety

    This class is geared for students that are 11 years of age or older. The Minnesota DNR requires attendance at all sessions, successful completion of a written exam and field training to include firing at least 15 rounds of live .22 caliber ammunition. Upon successful completion of the class, you will receive the Firearms Safety Certification. ** Parents are required to accompany their student to the first hour class session.** Parents are required to pick up their student on time. If parents are late to pick up their student, that student will be asked to leave the class and repeat the whole class the next time it’s offered. July 28, 29, 30 & 31st 4-7pm @ The Maple Hill Hall (Community Center) with the field day set up for Saturday, August 2nd.     Our offered classes and the progression of classes is based off of skill level, not age. While there are 'typical' age ranges of kids in certain classes, we also recognize the varying abilities and skills of all our kids. For more information contact Alex Hanson @ alexandra.hanson@isd701.org or 218-208-0842 ext 21200 Babies/Toddlers The goals of these classes: we start out nice and slow with fun activities like little bucket showers, blowing bubbles, playing splash ball, etc. The goal of this class is to have the kids comfortably submerging themselves. Skills Taught: Windshield Wipers (wiping water off face with hands), Blowing Bubbles, Splashy Kicks, Submerging --Babes & Tots I (1-2 years old)-- Prerequisite: None. Parent & Me Class 30 minute class ►Parents and children are introduced to the fundamentals of water safety and water discovery in a fun, stimulating environment. This class will help equip parents with information on how to safely submerge and properly hold babies in the water. Children must have a swim diaper. --Babes & Tots II (2-3 years old)-- Prerequisite: several experiences in a pool prior to this class. Parent & Me Class 30 minute class ►Parents and children focus on the fundamentals of water safety and the development of swim readiness skills. This class incorporates games that introduce the fundamentals of skills such as breath control, submersion, blowing bubbles, and assisted kicking and floating. Children must have a swim diaper Preschool Our preschool classes focus on how to safely enjoy the water while gaining comfort and confidence. These classes are divided into three levels that include safety, independence, and development. Skills Taught: Gliding, Splashy Kicks, Floating on Back, Jump in from side of pool, Big Arms, “Sea Otter Roll”, Monkey/Airplane/Soldier(elementary backstroke). Typically for kids ages 3 - 7. --Pre I -- Prerequisite: Children should be able to fully submerge their face in the water, eyes, and everything. 30 minute class ►Children will learn water safety and how to develop comfort with submersion, learn proper breath control, and front and back float with assistance. This class is designed for the first-time swimmers and for children who are not yet confident in being in the water alone. If children are not fully potty trained, a swim diaper needs to be worn. --Pre II -- Prerequisite: Children should be able to fully submerge their face in the water, eyes and everything. 30 minute class ►Children will further focus on gaining confidence and independence in the water by concentrating on control and movement in the water. We will begin teaching them the basics of movement through the water. Participants will continue to practice water safety. This class is best suited for participants who need guided practice and are not yet able to independently swim on their own or stay afloat. If children are not fully potty trained, a swim diaper needs to be worn. --Pre III -- Prerequisite: Child should be able to do Freestyle (“Big Arms & Splashy Kicks” with face in the water at least 2 feet thru water they cannot touch the bottom in. 30 minute class ►Children are introduced to arm/leg action, rhythmic breathing, and will swim further distances up to 10 yards, both with assistance and independently. This class is best suited for participants who are unable to swim longer distances independently. If children are not fully potty trained, a swim diaper needs to be worn. --Pre Youth -- Prerequisite: Child should be able to do Freestyle (“Big Arms & Splashy Kicks” with face in the water at least 2 feet thru water they cannot touch the bottom in. 30 minute class ► This class is a combination of Pre III and Youth I. Students will work on their skills from Pre III, but without flotation devices. As students progress, they will begin to work on Youth I skills as well. This class is unassisted from any flotation device. If children are not fully potty trained, a swim diaper needs to be worn. Youth (Typically ages 6+) The youth swim program is divided into six swim levels for children to advance and master skills at their own pace before advancing to the next level. Each level includes training in basic water safety, helping others in an emergency, and most importantly stroke development. --Youth I-- Prerequisite: Children should be able to do Freestyle a few feet with their face in the water and be able to roll over onto their back and float when they need air. 30 minute class ► At this level swimmers are finally crossing the distance of our pool using their big arms and sea otter rolls. We will introduce some backstroke to help the kids get more comfortable on their back. The goal of this class is to get them comfortably swimming the length of the pool unassisted. --Youth II-- Prerequisite: Children should be very comfortable in water when they cannot touch the bottom. Children should have also been introduced to Freestyle with the arms and the kicks. 30 minute class ►At this level we teach the kids how to turn their head to the side and get a breath, side breathing. The goal of this class is to get the kids to swim at least 1 lap using freestyle with side breathing with no help from the teacher. Participants are introduced to alternating and simultaneous arm/leg action, rhythmic breathing, and swimming further distances up to 1 lap with assistance and independently. They will continue to practice water safety and further learn about the aquatic environment. --Youth III-- Prerequisite: Children should be able to swim Freestyle with side breathing for one lap of the pool unassisted. 45 minute class ► At this level swimmers will begin swimming multiple laps at a time and work endurance. We also work out any kinks or bad habits the kids have in their strokes. Participants will further work on alternating and simultaneous arm/leg action and primarily focus on front crawl and backstroke for 15 yards. --Youth IV-- Prerequisite: Children should be able to swim at least 4 laps in a row of freestyle with a decent amount of speed. 45 minute class ►We continue to build up endurance, allowing swimmers to go greater distances. Participants will further work on alternating and simultaneous arm/leg action, and rotary breathing. They will learn or be exposed to additional strokes. Participants will be introduced to other components of swimming. --Youth V-- Prerequisite: Child should have knowledge of all four competitive strokes: Freestyle, Backstroke, Butterfly and Breaststroke. 45 minute class ►Swimmers will work on stroke techniques and learn competitive strokes to become more efficient swimmers. This class will refine strokes so participants can swim with further efficiency, power, and smoothness over longer distances. --Youth VI-- Prerequisite: Child should have adequate knowledge of all four competitive strokes: Freestyle, Backstroke, Butterfly and Breaststroke. 45 minute class ►In this level we work on fine tuning all of the strokes they know, as well as introducing racing aspects such as flip turns. By the end of this class the child should be ready to join a swim team or go out and swim 200 yards! Participants will practice endurance building and training, and competitive techniques. Open Swim Open Swim is an opportunity for friends and families to come and enjoy swim time together. All children ages 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Children with life jackets must be within arm’s reach of a parent at all times and are only allowed in the shallow end of the pool.     "No Small Parts!" Pop-up theater for Kids! with Megan Reynolds, Hibbing High School Drama Director & Shelly Hanson, Minnesota North College Instructor August 18-22, 2025 @ Lincoln Auditorium Experience the thrill of theater! Want to learn to pretend you're someone else and perform on the stage? Here's your chance! Spend a week this summer at the Lincoln Middle School Auditorium and learn how to put on a play, with YOU as the star actor! Taught by Shelly Hanson Minnesota North College and HHS Drama Director Megan Reynolds, assisted by HHS theater students, this workshop for young theater lovers will have opportunities for kids to learn beginning performance skills and the basics of play-making. Grades 1-3 will play theater games, sing songs, and create a short performance. Grades 4-7 will work with a script and put on a short play in just 5 days! (Grades 4-7 should bring a lunch with them to the theater each day during our break.) The week will culminate with a presentation by both sessions on Friday, August 22nd at 2pm in the Lincoln Auditorium 9-10am for students entering grades 1st-3rd 10:30-2pm for students entering grades 4th - 7th Scholarships are available thru Hibbing Community Education. Diving I is for those entering grades 2+ who are learning the fundamentals of diving and are looking to dive for recreational purposes regardless of prior diving experience or lack thereof. Our Diving II class is for those entering grades 5+ and gearing up to try out diving at the competitive level and/or entering into the 7-12 dive program.
