    Boys & Girls Cheer Camp 2025 Come have some fun with the Bluejacket cheerleaders! You'll learn cheers, jumps, and basic stunting! No matter your experience you will be challenged, learn new skills and most importantly HAVE FUN! Camp is for kids in 1st -6th grade for the 2025-2026 school year. Kids will be split into 2 groups : 1st-3rd graders & 4th - 6th graders. Each group will have practices and will get a chance to cheer at a boys & girls basketball game. A set of poms and t-shirt will be included in the camp fee! Practice will be held at The Early Learning Center. Transportation will be the parents responsibility to and from practices & games. For the performances, the students entry fee into each basketball games will be free with 1 paid adult. Dress code: shorts, t-shirt, and clean tennis shoes.     Hibbing Community Education offers a 30-hour Classroom Driver's training course for those 14-1/2 years of age and older. Class will be held in the Hibbing Early Learning Center- Commons October 27th - November 7th (Mon-Fri) , 2025 Monday-Friday class is 3pm-6pm Registration will open Monday, September 8th @ 8am. Pre-registration is required.     Crescendo Orchestra for Youth

    Crescendo Prelude Orchestra Group rehearsal ~ Students entering 4th grade and are learning the violin in weekly lessons. Location: Crescendo Studio at 214 E Howard St. Hibbing, MN for rehearsals When: Tuesdays at 4pm. October through November and again a new session in January through April. Performances: The concert will be held Monday December 1st 2025 at the Hibbing High Auditorium. Adult ticket price $8, kids/students/seniors (over 65) are $3. Description: For students enrolled in weekly lessons and entering the 4th grade. Students will use sheet music. They will learn their D string and A string notes and how to play a D major scale, and learn Essential Elements Book 1, and other various tunes. Teachers: Christy Tuominen and Julie Takkunen All students will be starting on violin in Prelude and will have the choice to switch to viola/cello/bass in their 2nd or 3rd year of taking lessons and playing with the orchestra. Rental is available on a first come basis ($15/month), but families who are financially able to lease-to-own or purchase are encouraged to do so. If you already own your own instrument, feel free to bring it, but please do not purchase an inexpensive one “just to try.” We will be happy to assist you. In addition to registering for this Community Ed class you will need to register for lessons (during the school day at the school or after school at the studio). If the student takes private lessons from a teacher not affiliated with the Crescendo program you need to discuss this with the director and get permission to register for register without Crescendo lessons. Youth Beginner For students enrolled in weekly lessons and entering the 5th or 6th grade. Students will learn to read music.They will learn their D string and A string notes and how to play a D major scale,and learn through page 27 in EssentialElements, and at least one song beforejoining Intermezzo. This class is required as part of the program. We do not “just do lessons” or “just do the class”. The lesson and rehearsal are 2 separate components and are both required for youth. The way the program is designed we get to see each student twice per week to reinforce good habits. We have found this to be the best recipe for success. All students will be starting on violin and will have the choice to switch to viola/cello/bass in their 2nd or 3rd year of taking lessons and playing with the orchestra. Uniforms can be purchased through the Karate School. Classes are available for youth and adults (Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced) Minimum age to register is 8 years old. Classes will be held at the new Early Learning Center (attached to the Washington Elementary School) in the gym. Please use the main entrance (door #16) Fall session begins Tuesday, September 2nd for Intermediate & Advanced classes. Beginners Karate begins Tuesday, September 9th. The Fall session for all levels run through Thursday, November 20th. Beginner 6:15-7pm Intermediate 7-8pm Advanced 8-9pm ** No class October 16th ** _________________________________________ Sparring Classes: Requirements - Must be in karate and at least a Gold belt to Spar Equipment required: Head protection, face mask, hand & foot protection, shin & elbow protection, cup & supporter, mouth guard and chest guard.     Pumpkin to Peppermint - Mini Swim Lesson Session During this special PUMPKIN TO PEPPERMINT Mini Session - we are offering flexibility in classes that will meet the needs of the busy holiday season. Choose to participate in the entire class (two days per week) or you can choose one of the days. We hope this PUMPKIN TO PEPPERMINT bridge session between the Fall and Winter sessions keeps students active and enjoying the water! Our offered classes and the progression of classes is based off of skill level, not age. While there are 'typical' age ranges of kids in certain classes, we also recognize the varying abilities and skills of all our kids. Skills Taught: Windshield Wipers (wiping water off face with hands), Blowing Bubbles, Splashy Kicks, Submerging --Babes & Tots I (6 months - 2 years old)-- Prerequisite: None. Parent & Me Class 30 minute class ►Parents and children are introduced to the fundamentals of water safety and water discovery in a fun, stimulating environment. This class will help equip parents with information on how to safely submerge and properly hold babies in the water. Children must have a swim diaper. --Babes & Tots II (2-3 years old)-- Prerequisite: several experiences in a pool prior to this class. Parent & Me Class 30 minute class ►Parents and children focus on the fundamentals of water safety and the development of swim readiness skills. This class incorporates games that introduce the fundamentals of skills such as breath control, submersion, blowing bubbles, and assisted kicking and floating. Children must have a swim diaper Preschool Our preschool classes focus on how to safely enjoy the water while gaining comfort and confidence. These classes are divided into three levels that include safety, independence, and development. Skills Taught: Gliding, Splashy Kicks, Floating on Back, Jump in from side of pool, Big Arms, “Sea Otter Roll”, Monkey/Airplane/Soldier(elementary backstroke). Typically for kids ages 3 - 7. --Pre I -- Prerequisite: Children should be able to fully submerge their face in the water, eyes, and everything. 30 minute class ►Children will learn water safety and how to develop comfort with submersion, learn proper breath control, and front and back float with assistance. This class is designed for the first-time swimmers and for children who are not yet confident in being in the water alone. If children are not fully potty trained, a swim diaper needs to be worn. --Pre II -- Prerequisite: Children should be able to fully submerge their face in the water, eyes and everything. 30 minute class ►Children will further focus on gaining confidence and independence in the water by concentrating on control and movement in the water. We will begin teaching them the basics of movement through the water. Participants will continue to practice water safety. This class is best suited for participants who need guided practice and are not yet able to independently swim on their own or stay afloat. If children are not fully potty trained, a swim diaper needs to be worn. --Pre III -- Prerequisite: Child should be able to do Freestyle (“Big Arms & Splashy Kicks” with face in the water at least 2 feet thru water they cannot touch the bottom in. 30 minute class ►Children are introduced to arm/leg action, rhythmic breathing, and will swim further distances up to 10 yards, both with assistance and independently. This class is best suited for participants who are unable to swim longer distances independently. If children are not fully potty trained, a swim diaper needs to be worn. --Pre Youth -- Prerequisite: Child should be able to do Freestyle (“Big Arms & Splashy Kicks” with face in the water at least 2 feet thru water they cannot touch the bottom in. 30 minute class ► This class is a combination of Pre III and Youth I. Students will work on their skills from Pre III, but without flotation devices. As students progress, they will begin to work on Youth I skills as well. This class is unassisted from any flotation device. If children are not fully potty trained, a swim diaper needs to be worn. Youth (Typically ages 6+) The youth swim program is divided into six swim levels for children to advance and master skills at their own pace before advancing to the next level. Each level includes training in basic water safety, helping others in an emergency, and most importantly stroke development. --Youth I-- Prerequisite: Children should be able to do Freestyle a few feet with their face in the water and be able to roll over onto their back and float when they need air. 30 minute class ► At this level swimmers are finally crossing the distance of our pool using their big arms and sea otter rolls. We will introduce some backstroke to help the kids get more comfortable on their back. The goal of this class is to get them comfortably swimming the length of the pool unassisted. --Youth II-- Prerequisite: Children should be very comfortable in water when they cannot touch the bottom. Children should have also been introduced to Freestyle with the arms and the kicks. 30 minute class ►At this level we teach the kids how to turn their head to the side and get a breath, side breathing. The goal of this class is to get the kids to swim at least 1 lap using freestyle with side breathing with no help from the teacher. Participants are introduced to alternating and simultaneous arm/leg action, rhythmic breathing, and swimming further distances up to 1 lap with assistance and independently. They will continue to practice water safety and further learn about the aquatic environment. --Youth III-- Prerequisite: Children should be able to swim Freestyle with side breathing for one lap of the pool unassisted. 45 minute class ► At this level swimmers will begin swimming multiple laps at a time and work endurance. We also work out any kinks or bad habits the kids have in their strokes. Participants will further work on alternating and simultaneous arm/leg action and primarily focus on front crawl and backstroke for 15 yards. --Youth IV-- Prerequisite: Children should be able to swim at least 4 laps in a row of freestyle with a decent amount of speed. 45 minute class ►We continue to build up endurance, allowing swimmers to go greater distances. Participants will further work on alternating and simultaneous arm/leg action, and rotary breathing. They will learn or be exposed to additional strokes. Participants will be introduced to other components of swimming. --Youth V-- Prerequisite: Child should have knowledge of all four competitive strokes: Freestyle, Backstroke, Butterfly and Breaststroke. 45 minute class ►Swimmers will work on stroke techniques and learn competitive strokes to become more efficient swimmers. This class will refine strokes so participants can swim with further efficiency, power, and smoothness over longer distances. --Youth VI-- Prerequisite: Child should have adequate knowledge of all four competitive strokes: Freestyle, Backstroke, Butterfly and Breaststroke. 45 minute class ►In this level we work on fine tuning all of the strokes they know, as well as introducing racing aspects such as flip turns. By the end of this class the child should be ready to join a swim team or go out and swim 200 yards! Participants will practice endurance building and training, and competitive techniques.
  • Rangers and Dragons

    Dungeons (Rangers) and Dragons (D&D) is a collaborative storytelling game where the players assume a character role in a fictional world. It involves elements of improv, board game tactics, and acting or role-play. It a team-based choose-your-own-adventure story. DM Shawn (5th-9th grade) This campaign is about 9-10 sessions going from level 1-5 with room to grow or continue if the same group wants to keep playing. Players are adventurers responding to a plea from the king of a small kingdom. His advisors have foreseen a rising darkness threatening to overtake the kingdom. Open Swim Open Swim is an opportunity for friends and families to come and enjoy swim time together. All children ages 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Children with life jackets must be within arm’s reach of a parent at all times and are only allowed in the shallow end of the pool. Come learn or improve with former Hibbing diver Lizzie Copeman. Diving I is for those entering grades 2+ who are learning the fundamentals of diving and are looking to dive for recreational purposes regardless of prior diving experience or lack thereof. Our Diving II class is for those entering grades 5+ and gearing up to try out diving at the competitive level and/or entering into the 7-12 dive program.
