  • ECFE Classes

The years from birth to age five are critical to a child's development. The Early Childhood programs are geared to helping families during these formative years. By offering support to the family, parents learn parenting skills that enable them to raise healthy children, and these children will be ready to succeed in school when they enter the doors of our elementary schools. Our goal is to provide children (from birth to Kindergarten age) and their parents, the opportunity to learn and grow together. The program provides support and information for parents and healthy developmental growth for the child.LOCATED IN THE NEW HIBBING EARLY LEARNING CENTER, DOOR #16. Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) is a statewide program through the Hibbing School District's Community Education, for any parents and preschool children from birth to kindergarten age. It has a “parent group time” when parenting issues, child development information, speakers, and parenting support are provided by a licensed parent educator. The children have their own group time with a licensed early childhood teacher who provides planned activities and experiences that help enhance the learning and development of young children. ECFE classes are held during the daytime and evening, Monday through Wednesday, September thru May. Each child comes one time per week (depending on age, class approximately 1 hr long). Scholarships are available for those that qualify. Please call 218-208-0853 for more information. All classes are held at the Hibbing Early Learning Center (2100 12th Ave E, Hibbing MN. 55746). 2026-2027 ECFE Flyer. 26-27 ECFE Calendar Classes Infant Classes - No Separating Ones and Twos - No Separating Gym Class - No Separating, no classroom time Twos and Threes, Twos to Fives, and Threes to Fives - approximately 30 minutes separating time. • Early Childhood Screening

Early Childhood Screening is required before a student starts kindergarten in Minnesota. The screening is a quick and simple check of how your child is doing at 3 to 4 years of age. It identifies, at an early stage, possible health or learning concerns, so that children can get help before starting school. It is not a readiness test for kindergarten. Early childhood screening helps a parent find out how their child is doing, helps connect families to early childhood programs and other community services, and is a time to ask about parenting issues and/or concerns. If your child has been screened through Head Start, they do not have to be screened again. What happens during Screening? During the Early Childhood Screening, well qualified staff, licensed teachers, and school nurses will check your child's: vision, hearing, growth, immunization status, and overall development (skills in thinking, communication and language, large and small muscles, and social/emotional development.) All of this information is important for your child’s continued learning and readiness for future school success. Screening is required for entrance into kindergarten. However, this is not a kindergarten readiness screening. Ideally, this screening will take place when a child is 3 years old. When are the screenings held? Hibbing Early Childhood Screenings are held 6 times during the school year. There is no charge, however appointment times are needed and the completion of paperwork is required. Screenings are held at the Hibbing Early Learning Center (2100 12th Ave E, Hibbing MN. 55747-- Door 16) If you have questions about Early Childhood Screening, please call 218-208-0852 ext 1 Additional Important Information A child must have one parent/legal guardian attend the appointment or have prior written parental consent before a child will be screened. There is no charge for screening, but you must add this course to your cart and complete the checkout process and required paperwork to be enrolled. This process will also register your child for Kindergarten. An email confirmation will be sent to you to confirm your appointment enrollment. You will also receive an email reminder a couple days prior to the appointment. (Check your Spam or Junk email folders if the email doesn't come directly to your inbox). PLEASE BRING COPIES OF YOUR CHILD'S IMMUNIZATION RECORDS AND BIRTH CERTIFICATE. If your child is sick or you are unable to keep your scheduled appointment, please call 218-208-0852.
